But whether or not you are familiar with the London dining scene let's show off some great locations talked about by those who know their roasts from each other as we give an overview and guide on where one may consider visiting if trying to hunt down being able to devour one of the greatest meals known around town; yes this one is about sharing knowledge!
So sit tight and take note as we present below our handpicked top places for a Sunday roast in the capital city!
🔑 Key Takeaways:
Here's what you’ll learn from reading this article:
- London boasts some of the best places in the world to indulge in a traditional Sunday roast, with many establishments offering delicious roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
- As a capital city renowned for its culinary diversity, it's no surprise that London also caters to vegetarian and vegan diners looking for their own twist on a classic Sunday lunch.
- While some restaurants focus firmly on retaining tradition, others are more experimental – meaning visitors can expect anything from locally sourced produce or global influences to be incorporated into their meals.
- Whether you're happy just enjoying your meal alone or prefer inviting friends along for good company and conversation over dinner, there is sure to be somewhere suitable amongst the top places serving up Sunday roasts across London.
☝️ How we rated the services below:
When reviewing the Best Sunday Roasts in London, we considered several key criteria, including:
- Quality of meat: We believe that the quality of the meat is a crucial factor when it comes to judging a Sunday roast. We looked for restaurants that used good cuts of meat with plenty of flavour and tenderness.
- Accompaniments: A great Sunday roast should be accompanied by perfectly cooked vegetables, crispy roast potatoes, fluffy Yorkshire puddings and rich gravy. The balance between all these elements is important to create an exceptional dining experience.
- Vegetarian/vegan options: Not everyone eats meat, or perhaps someone might want to join their vegetarian friend on a Sunday out! Hence we checked if there were any delicious plant-based alternatives available too along with considering whether they’re served as just substituting meat or something much more interesting!
- Ambience: There's nothing quite like tucking into a hearty meal in warm and cosy surroundings while sipping your favourite drinks on lazy Sundays. Hence we reviewed places where attention had been paid towards creating an inviting atmosphere so that people felt welcome to spend their afternoons away from home.
- Value for money: Eating out can get expensive quickly. We wanted restaurants which provided value for what was being paid; meaning regular top-ups during service should not happen but shouldn’t have long intervals too while making sure portion sizes are in line with prices charged… Essentially how satisfying was their offer compared to expenditure?
- Service: Was there enough personnel serving tables? Did they approach diners promptly upon arrival? Were server friendly & empathetic? It's essential for customers’ eating experiences to be enjoyable and comfortable so certain basic expectations from hosts need to be met.

The Cat & Mutton
⭐ An Unfiltered Assessment of The Cat & Mutton:
The Cat & Mutton has stolen my heart with its incredible food, entertainment, and atmosphere. As soon as I walked in, the strong aroma of deliciousness hit me, and I knew that this was going to be an unforgettable experience. The pub is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean – a perfect setting for enjoying some delectable delights.
I went for the steak & ale pie with mash potato which didn't disappoint – it was bursting with flavour! And if you think that's great already wait until you try their sticky toffee pudding. It tasted heavenly! On top of that, there were drinks aplenty and music from the DJ set kept us all dancing throughout our stay.
One slight issue we came across was that they did not have a huge variety of draft beer options available; however, this minor inconvenience failed to detract from all the other positives The Cat & Mutton had going on. Although slightly disappointed by the chicken Sunday roast (it needed more stuffing), my companions raved about their beef version instead – proportionally massive servings made sure everyone left satisfied!
All things considered: fantastic venue plus excellent service equals five-star recommendation! You owe it to yourself to give The Cat & Mutton a visit – especially on Saturday nights when looking for somewhere to while away your time.

The Three Stags
⭐ Our Genuine Review of The Three Stags:
The Three Stags is a charming little pub nestled away on the bustling corner of Kennington and Lambeth roads. As I walked in, I was instantly struck by the traditional decor with rustic tables and chairs. The friendly staff welcomed me with open arms and helped me settle into a comfy booth as they took my order for their famous lamb roast (which turned out to be absolutely divine!).
As someone who isn't usually a fan of roasts, I was pleasantly surprised at just how delicious it was – but what really stood out to me was how well-complemented the dish was by their selection of beers. The Pravha that I tried had just the right balance of flavour notes to perfectly match every bite.

⭐ An Unfiltered Assessment of The Culpeper:
The Culpeper, where do I even begin? This charming establishment has effortlessly captured my heart with its captivating ambiance and mouth-watering delicacies. From the moment I stepped into this cozy restaurant till the end of my meal, every aspect exceeded expectations. The decor was modern yet rustic, exuding a sense of tranquility that made me feel right at home.
I can't help but commend the staff on their excellent service standards; they were nothing short of amazing! Sean stood out among them all – he had an extensive knowledge of their selection of ales and went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect for me, including keeping an eye on my belongings. It's incredibly rare to encounter such great customer service these days, so encountering it here really warmed my soul!
As for the food – oh boy! I ordered the Sunday Roast beef as per recommendations from previous visitors and my boyfriend tried it as well. Although not all aspects hit our individual taste buds in agreement (such as gravy), most notably for myself personally- cauliflower cheese stumped by personal preferences- overall we were pleasantly satisfied by what we received in return with roast potatoes being particularly good… Similarly appreciative when trying dessert which was mango sorbet created to perfection.
In conclusion: if you're looking for a spot that ticks all boxes – fantastic atmosphere, fabulous staff members, extensive options on drinks menu (although may need some sampling!), then The Culpeper should definitely be added onto your list without hesitation. The Thomas Cubitt Pub Belgravia
⭐ Our Unvarnished Impressions of The Thomas Cubitt Pub Belgravia:
The Thomas Cubitt Pub Belgravia – a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Elizabeth Street, London. From the moment I walked through the door, I knew that this place was something special. My son and I were warmly welcomed by the staff and seated promptly for lunch. The sun-kissed weather added to our experience as we savoured delightfully crispy fish and chips with wings washed down with a refreshing pint.
One thing that stood out to me wasn't just how delicious the food was but how considerate they were of dietary requirements. When attending a work function there, they kindly made me gluten-free alternatives which is truly appreciated! It's remarkable service like this that keeps you coming back again and again.
The ambiance is second-to-none; its outdoor seating has an authentic vibe where time seemed to pass effortlessly as my son enjoyed watching people walking past while enjoying his drink. However, despite being busy at times making it challenging to get a table immediately, it's worth stating you should make reservations beforehand if possible!
All things considered: scrumptious food coupled with excellent ambience all tailored to give patrons an unforgettable experience–absolute perfection at The Thomas Cubitt Pub Belgravia!

The Tim Bobbin
⭐ Our Honest Opinion of The Tim Bobbin:
The Tim Bobbin is a hidden gem in Clapham that's well worth seeking out. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel right at home by the friendly staff, who were all dog lovers (a definite plus!). The pub itself has a lovely garden out back where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine while sipping on a cold beer or cocktail.
But let's talk about the food. It was exceptional! We ordered two Sunday roasts – one beef and one pork belly – and both were cooked to perfection. I have to say, though, that I preferred the pork belly over the beef. But no matter what your preference is, you won't be disappointed with their roast offerings. And if you're not in the mood for roast, they have plenty of other delicious dishes on offer as well.
To top it off, we also got dessert which was equally satisfying and impressive! It had me licking my lips for more 🤤 If you're looking for quality food in an unpretentious setting then The Tim Bobbin is definitely worth visiting . Their menu will give any critic something amazing to write about.
Overall? Great atmosphere combined with fantastic service equals an unforgettable dining experience which will keep us going back again-and-again; quite simply but solidly “wow!”

Canton Arms
⭐ Our Genuine Review of Canton Arms:
Canton Arms, oh how you make my heart sing! As soon as I walked through the door, I was instantly hit with that homely vibe and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly from start to finish. It is no surprise why this place has such a high rating on Google reviews!
Now let's talk about the food – wow! Just when I thought pub grub couldn't get any better, Canton Arms proved me wrong. My partner and I tried their Braised ‘ale and onion' Dexter short rib with mash (for two) which was mouth-wateringly delicious. The portion sizes may be small but trust me when I say it is worth every penny spent.
If you're looking for a traditional Sunday roast, Canton Arms might not tick that box for you but don't worry because they have a vast array of dishes on their menu that will satisfy your taste buds beyond belief.
To add to our wonderful experience, we enjoyed some local beers from both cask and keg whilst taking in the delightful decor of the pub itself. ⭐ Our Unvarnished Impressions of Marksman:
Marksman is a gastronomic haven nestled in Hackney Road, and I can't believe it took me this long to find it. From the moment I stepped inside, the ambiance was inviting, with warm lighting and cozy furnishings that screamed elegant pub vibes. The staff were friendly and attentive too – our server Kat provided us with an expertly-curated menu rundown before we ordered any dishes.
Now let's talk about the food – every course was a delicious ensemble of flavors that made my seasoned palate sing a melody of satisfaction! My partner thinks the lamb she tasted here was the best she's ever had. And as for me? The lamb bun stole my heart from the get-go! Even if you're not typically fond of pub food because they seem ordinary or bland, Marksman flips this notion on its head by elevating your typical fare so that each dish is full of character and flavor.
The experience at Marksman stuck with me long after we left. It’s definitely worth returning time and again for their phenomenal food offerings because trust me—you’ll savour every bite just like we did ours.”
